My Bates Password is about to expire, what should I do?

Your Bates Password will expire every 365 days, and you will be forced to change it. You may also change your Bates password as often as you like or if you feel that your account has been compromised.

To change your Bates password, login to Password Manager at: https://login.bates.edu/ and from the User Menu, click on the Change Password link. The process of changing your Bates password will not change your Garnet Gateway PIN, or if you use Banner INB, it will not change that password.

Once you have changed your Bates password, there may be systems that you use and access from other devices that may need to be updated, such as:

  • Bates Email on a Mobile Device
  • Computers and Devices connected to Bates Secure WiFi
  • Email Clients such as Mac Mail and Mozilla Thunderbird
  • Saved passwords in web browsers

Most systems will detect a password change and will prompt you for your updated password. If a system fails to connect, you may need to update your password from within that system manually.

30 days before your password expires you will begin to receive email notices to change your password. As your password appoaches its expiration date, these email messages will become more frequent. Once you have updated your password, you will no longer receive reminder messages.

If you fail to change your password by the expiration date, all of your Bates accounts that utilize your Bates username and password will no longer be accessible. You have up to 30-days to login to Password Manager after your password has expired to change it and to unlock your accounts. If you have passed the 30-day grace period, your access to Password Manager will also be locked, and you must contact the  Bates College IT Help Desk for assistance with a Password Sponsorship.
