Microsoft Office – Click and Type (IT Training Tip)
In Microsoft® Word 2016 (Windows/Mac), there is a little-known-about feature called Click and Type or sometimes also known as Click Anywhere. With the Click and Type feature, you can double-click anywhere in your document and begin typing from that specific location, so you are no longer limited to starting your text from the left margin. With Click and Type, you can also apply alignment without having to click on the formatting buttons located on the Ribbon.
In order for the Click and Type feature to work, you must be editing or creating your document in the Print Layout or Web Layout view.
Enabling the Click and Type Feature –
- Launch Microsoft® Word 2016 for the Mac
- Click on Word from the menu bar
- From the drop-down menu, click on Preferences…
- In the Authoring and Proofing Tools section, click on the Edit icon
- At the bottom of the Edit window, you will see the Click and Type section
- Place a checkmark next to Enable click and type if one is not already there
- Close the Edit window
- Launch Microsoft® Word 2016 for Microsoft® Windows
- Click on the File tab
- Click on Options from the File menu
- From the Word Options window, click on Advanced
- In the Editing options section, place a checkmark next to Enable click and type if one is not already there
- Click on the OK button
Using Click and Type –
Launch Microsoft® Word 2016 and edit an existing document or create a new one. As you move your cursor around in your document, you will see a series of horizontal bars to the left, right, or bottom of the cursor. These horizontal bars indicate the type of alignment that will be applied when you double-click anywhere in your document.
