Login Problems with the Federated Authentication Service

Description:

We are currently experiencing problems with login access to certain services that utilize the Federated Authentication Service. Individuals may experience login access issues to Bates Gmail, Zoom Video Conferencing Platform, and other services that require the Federated Authentication Service for login authentication.

Notes:

Individuals attempting to login to a service that requires the Federated Authentication Service may receive one of the following error messages: Web Login Service – Stale Request or Login Failure: Block time exceeded.

Preventative Network Maintenance

Description:

On Saturday, August 19, 2017, from 6:00am to 2:00pm, Preventative Network Maintenance will be performed to the Bates Computing Network. During this time, disruptions will be kept to a minimum, but network connectivity will be impacted. It is possible that during the maintenance period, individuals will lose connectivity to the Bates Network and to the Internet. If you are utilizing network resources during this time period, please make sure to save your work often.

Description:

A network outage is scheduled for 2:30pm on Friday, June 16, 2017, will affect network connectivity, including WiFi on the 2nd & 3rd floors, and the Mezzanine level in Hathorn Hall.

The outage is due construction being performed on the 1st floor of Hathorn Hall. Fiber optic cables serving the networks on the 2nd and 3rd Floors, as well as the Mezzanine level, need to be relocated.

Wireless Connectivity Issues

Description:

During routine maintenance, approximately half of the college’s WiFi access points rebooted and were not successful at reconnecting to the network.

Title:

Internet Connectivity Issues

Description:

One of our Internet Service Providers (ISP) – Oxford Networks continues to experience connectivity issues that is affecting our ability to access to some online services. Our Network Administration Team is working directly with our Oxford Networks to resolve this issue. The college utilizes two ISPs (Oxford Networks and UMaine) to provide Internet connectivity for the Bates College Community.

On March 31st our ISP, Oxford Networks connection was brought online.  All systems are normal and we expect the problems to be resolved.

Tuesday, March 28, 2017 @ 9:14am – All of our Internet traffic is now being routed through our UMaine Internet Service Provider (ISP). Web sites and online services that were previously inaccessible through our Oxford Networks ISP should now be available. As our Network Team continues to troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues associated with Oxford Networks, there may be possible service interruptions throughout the day.

Tuesday, March 28, 2017 @ 8:37am – Our Network Administration Team continues to troubleshoot and diagnosis our Internet connectivity issues associated with Oxford Network. We anticipate a possible temporary solution to be implemented today. You may continue to experience intermittent Internet connectivity issues to some websites until this issue has been resolved. Once we have received confirmation that this issue has been resolved, a resolved date and time will be posted to the “Resolved” section of this post and this posting will be moved to the “Past History” section of the System Status – Campus Networking (General) status page.

Monday, March 27, 2017 @ 4:08pm – Our ISP – Oxford Networks has made a change as to how our Internet traffic is routed. It is possible that we may continue to experience intermittent access issues until we have received a final resolution from our ISP – Oxford Networks.

This issue is ongoing from a similar issue posted on Thursday, March 23, 2017.

Description:

A network device in Carnegie Science Hall that provides network connectivity throughout the building is malfunctioning and has rebooted several times within the last 24 hours.

Thursday, March 23, 2017 @ 2:20 pm – After a period of monitoring the malfunctioning network device in Carnegie Science Hall, the network device appears to be stable. Our Network Administration Team determined that there was an issue with the UPS (battery backup) in which the device connected.

Preventative Network Maintenance

Description:

On Saturday, November 18, 2017, Information and Library Services will be performing maintenance to the network equipment in Roger Williams and Hedge Hall. The work will take place from 7:00am to 2:00pm. During this time you should expect to have either no network connections, or intermittent network connections. This includes all networked equipment and services: printing, servers, email, classrooms, etc.
