Move-in Visitors in Residence Halls and Visitors to Campus Policy

Family members and support team members are welcome to enter their student’s residence hall during the move-in process as long as one of the following conditions is met. Guests must be able to show (1) proof of being fully vaccinated and boosted or (2) proof of a negative COVID-19 test (PCR, rapid antigen, or at-home) within the previous 48 hours. We ask parents and support team members to be mindful of the time that they are spending in the residences. Please try to get outside the residence to other move-in day events and de-densify the indoor space as soon as possible. Please stay tuned for additional move-in day information coming later in the month.

What to know before arriving to campus

  • All students arriving to campus should head to Commons for check-in. Students will have their ID cards activated, receive their room key, and then may proceed to their residence hall or house to move in.
  • Board plans will begin on the following dates:
    • First-year students: August 31st
    • Returning students: Dinner on September 5th
    • If you are arriving early, please check with your program lead for info about meals
  • Students are not required to sign up for an arrival time on Garnet Gateway (this is a change from the past few years). Instead, students are free to arrive at anytime during check-in. As a reminder, that means:
    • First-year Students: August 31, 8a-12p
    • Returning Students: September 4-6, 10a-6p

Frequently Asked Questions

I’m arriving early. What does the arrival process look like for me?

  • If you belong to an early arrival group, please contact your program leader for more information about your arrival process. For students arriving early who are not part of a group, please fill out the form above under “Early Arrival Dates and Times”.

My plane/train/bus/ride to campus will arrive after check-in is closed. What should I do?

  • If at all possible, students should make every effort to arrive during check-in hours on designated arrival days. We understand that for some students, flight times or other travel restrictions will make this impossible. If you know you will have no choice but to arrive after hours, please head directly to the Campus Safety Building (245 College St) when you arrive to campus.

I cannot get to campus until after September 6th due to extenuating circumstances. What should I do?

  • Please contact us at housing@bates.edu.
