Professional staff members support our student staff of Junior Advisors, Community Advisors, and Team Leaders in creating environments where students can thrive, whether in a large residential hall setting, or a small house setting. Nick supervises the Residence Life team, and works with a variety of campus partners to drive the mission and vision of Residence Life and the First-Year Experience. In his role, he works to create an inclusive, equitable environment grounded in inspiration and creativity, supporting staff and students in creating and sustaining an engaging residential campus environment. He also works to infuse the values of the First-Year Experience throughout a student&#8217;s introductory year to the college, as well as into the residential system. The student experience is at the center of his work, also serving as student support advisor. He is also the founder and primary administrator of Bates Engage, the college\u2019s student engagement platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Originally from Buffalo, NY, Nick received a bachelor\u2019s degree in English and film from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. As a live-in staff member, he is responsible for supporting residential students and all functions of the Office of Residence Life. His passion for ResLife work comes from his Resident Assistant (RA) experience during his undergrad years. Cole finds incredible value in ResLife work; connection, community building, self-exploration and student support. Cole joined Bates College in January of 2023. Prior to Bates, he spent 5 years in other residence life positions at Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts as well as the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. Cole received both his Bachelor\u2019s and Master\u2019s Degrees in Communications from Lasell College (now known as Lasell University) in Newton, Massachusetts. He is from Standish, Maine and grew up spending most of his time on Sebago Lake. As a live-in Residence Life staff member, Danielle is responsible for all things housing.&nbsp;She oversees student housing operations including housing selection, first-year student assignment, and managing essential administrative functions related to the Residence Life program. Danielle is the primary point of contact for students and families about housing related issues. She also manages partnerships within and outside the college related&nbsp;to housing. Danielle received&nbsp;her bachelor&#8217;s degree in Psychology from the University of Denver. After graduating she worked in Student Affairs and Residential Life at Bowdoin College and the University of New Hampshire. She also earned her Master&#8217;s in Education at the University of New Hampshire while working there. Danielle is passionate about inclusion, equity, and access within her work in student affairs and higher education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Isabel Makwecha<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/housing\/files\/2023\/01\/bobcat-1.jpg\" alt=\"mmuro\" style=\"width:200px;height:undefinedpx\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Isabel Makwecha (she\/her)&nbsp;serves as the Coordinator for Residential Operations. As a live-in staff member, Isabel supports the day-to-day logistics that keep&nbsp;the&nbsp;residential communities running smoothly. She helps manage the room assignments, coordinates room change processes, manages the ResLife office, and much more. Isabel holds a Master\u2019s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Denver and a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Education from African Bible College in Malawi. She is originally from Africa. Before moving into higher education, Isabel worked in both primary and secondary schools, including with underserved and rural populations, where she was deeply committed to creating access to learning and hope through education. As a live-in staff member, Marc is responsible for supporting students throughout their college experience at Bates by helping provide a safe and welcoming environment at all times. As a first-generation college student, Marc earned his bachelor&#8217;s degree in Education and Hispanic Studies from Bowdoin College in 2022. At Bowdoin, Marc spent a lot of his time supporting students in THRIVE, which is a program that strives to support BIPOC students. Once graduating, Marc worked at a behavioral health facility in Tucson, AZ as an Employment Specialist to support members of the community, of all ages, struggling with mental health issues to find employment or pursue educational opportunities. Marc looks forward to connecting and working with students to find ways to best support them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Barrett Fuller<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/housing\/files\/2023\/01\/bobcat-1.jpg\" alt=\"mmuro\" style=\"width:200px;height:undefinedpx\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Barrett Fuller (he\/him) serves as an Area Coordinator. As a live-in staff member, Barrett is responsible for helping ensure that students can enjoy a safe and inclusive living environment. Originally from Meridian, Idaho, he has a Bachelor\u2019s in International Relations from the University of Southern California. Upon graduation, Barrett worked as a 7th grade social studies teacher in Alabama. Before coming to Bates, Barrett worked as a Student Success Coordinator for Northeastern University in Berlin, Germany, where he found his passion for supporting students in Residence Life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Matthew Wyman<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/housing\/files\/2023\/01\/bobcat-1.jpg\" alt=\"mmuro\" style=\"width:200px;height:undefinedpx\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Matthew Wyman (they\/xe\/he) serves as an Area Coordinator. As a live-in staff member, Matthew is responsible for meeting students where they are &#8211; both literally and figuratively &#8211; to help create safe, inclusive, and equitable residential communities. As a first-generation college student, Matthew fell in love with Residence Life at the University of Maine at Farmington, where they earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in psychology with a minor in rehabilitation in 2018. During their time at UMF, Matthew piloted the university\u2019s first-ever LGBT+ residential floor as a Community Assistant. Matthew has spent their entire professional life in service of youth and young adults, from acting as a domestic violence support advocate to coordinating a council of formerly homeless youth who helped shape youth homelessness policy in Maine. Prior to their current role, they also served as an admissions counselor at their alma mater.
