{"id":120,"date":"2017-11-16T15:17:58","date_gmt":"2017-11-16T15:17:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/institutional-review-board\/?page_id=120"},"modified":"2024-05-02T13:14:16","modified_gmt":"2024-05-02T17:14:16","slug":"steps-to-follow","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/institutional-review-board\/steps-to-follow\/","title":{"rendered":"Steps to Follow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Research that meets an exemption should be submitted via the online form corresponding to the appropriate exemption (see <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/institutional-review-board\/overview-start-here\/\"><b>this link<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to determine which of the exemptions applies to your research, if any).\u00a0 If your work does <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">not<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> meet an exemption category then follow the steps listed below to submit a full proposal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Submissions to the IRB must include all of the following:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li><strong>COMPLETED<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/institutional-review-board\/files\/2023\/10\/IRBchecklist-Revised-10.2023.pdf\">IRB Checklist<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Cover sheet including the name of the project, researcher&#8217;s name and e-mail address, and advisor&#8217;s name and e-mail address (if applicable).<\/li>\n<li>A summary of your project in no more than 150 words. (You can review a sample IRB proposal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/institutional-review-board\/irb-forms-templates-and-samples\/\">here<\/a>.)<\/li>\n<li>Detailed description of the procedural section of the research proposal.<\/li>\n<li>A reasonably complete sample of the test items, if applicable.<\/li>\n<li>Consent form and script for obtaining informed consent. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/institutional-review-board\/irb-forms-templates-and-samples\/\">Consent form templates are available on our Policies, Forms, Templates, and Samples page<\/a>.)<\/li>\n<li>If applicable, script for debriefing research participants. (Debriefing is required where there is either deception or incomplete disclosure of the purpose of the study. If these do not apply, debriefing is nevertheless encouraged for the learning opportunity a debriefing provides participants.)<\/li>\n<li>If another institution or organization will be involved in your research, include a letter of permission to conduct research from them.
