On Friday, March 13, the Ladd Library will be open late (until 1 am Saturday morning) to host a very special event. Late at Bates, Chase Hall Committee, and independent visionaries Emma Russell ’18 and Ben Roop ’18 have teamed up to bring laser tag to the library basement.

It was an unprecedented idea, but one met with huge enthusiasm from the student body. Within minutes, the signup schedule began filling up with eager Batesies. “Laser tag was such a great idea,” said Rachel Forcillo ’18. “I signed up with all my friends as soon as I heard about it.”

Her sentiment was shared by many others; the 300 available timeslots filled up in just under three hours. Throughout its two and a half hour runtime, those 300 Batesies will compete 30 at a time in fifteen minute basement battles.

Not everyone was lucky enough to get a spot though. “I tried to sign up the first night, but it filled up way too fast,” said Eliza Jiménez ’18. “Hopefully there will be another one soon that I can do.”

The large wait list is a testament to the event’s allure. But whether or not Eliza’s and many others’ hopes of another laser tag event will ever come into fruition is unknown, but one thing is certain: this Friday will be a night that no partaker will forget.
