{"id":825,"date":"2012-08-23T17:38:14","date_gmt":"2012-08-23T17:38:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/library\/?page_id=544"},"modified":"2026-01-19T16:33:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T21:33:06","slug":"ladd-for-visitors","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/library\/ladd-for-visitors\/","title":{"rendered":"Ladd for Visitors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Welcome to the Library!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ladd Library is open to the public 8am-6pm during the academic year (break and summer<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/library\/hours\/\"> hours vary<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Access to our Collections<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Walk-in, in-building use of our print and electronic collections are available for those doing research. Visitors may use one of our easy-access kiosks. While we do not provide general public internet access on our kiosks, the public can connect to the &#8220;Bates Open&#8221; wireless server with their personal devices for research purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For access to College records, personal papers, including those of Edmund S. Muskie, and rare books, visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/abacus.bates.edu\/Library\/aboutladd\/departments\/special\/index.shtml\">Edmund S. Muskie Archives and Special Collections<\/a> web site or their building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conference rooms and group study rooms in Ladd may be used by members of the local community. However, only Bates community members can reserve these spaces in advance.&nbsp; Bates students, faculty and staff have priority and visitors will get &#8220;bumped&#8221; for academic or library-related purposes (e.g. researcher using library resources, students needing to use the screen capture capabilities of the room, etc).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Check Out of Materials<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All citizens of the Second Congressional District may borrow <a href=\"http:\/\/libguides.bates.edu\/content.php?pid=138128\">Government Documents<\/a>. We lend most other materials via interlibrary loan through your local public or academic library. We also participate in the &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/library\/mrbp\">Maine Reciprocal Borrowing Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Copiers<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We have both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/library\/copiers\/\">digital scanner and microform copiers<\/a> available to the general public.
