809w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 230px) 100vw, 230px\" \/><\/a>Working with a research team from Bowdoin and Wellesley Colleges, Bates Anthropology lecturer and Special Assistant to the President Heather Lindkvist investigated how students define college success. \u00a0Their longitudinal study followed 66 New England liberal arts college students over four years (2006-2010).<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Participating colleges are members of The New England Consortium on Assessment and Student Learning (NECASL) consisting of\u00a0Bates,\u00a0Bowdoin,\u00a0Colby,\u00a0Middlebury,\u00a0Smith,\u00a0Trinity and\u00a0Wellesley.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Using data from a series of interviews and surveys, student attitudes regarding the value of college experiences related to academic achievement, academic engagement, social and residential life and life management were investigated. \u00a0The New England consortium on Assessment and Student Learning provides Information regarding\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/web.wellesley.edu\/NECASL\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">NECASL project goals<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/web.wellesley.edu\/NECASL\/instruments.html\" target=\"_blank\">details of the survey questions used<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A subset of data from this study, including 3 case studies, is presented and discussed in the recent paper \u00a0<strong>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/search.ebscohost.com\/login.aspx?direct=true&amp;db=a9h&amp;AN=93465863&amp;site=ehost-live\">What would make this a successful year for you?: How Students Define Success in College<\/a>\u201d<\/strong>. \u00a0Student attitudes regarding college success are compared and contrasted with the stated goals of the colleges they attend. \u00a0Changes in student attitudes over their four years prior to graduation are also discussed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NECASL longitudinal
