(Now named Florida Memorial University, the college is now located in Miami Gardens.)<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0stories, published in\u00a0<em>The Bates Student<\/em> of \u00a0March 17, 1965,\u00a0hint at life for black students\u00a0in\u00a0a mid-1960s\u00a0Jim Crow<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';font-size: small\">\u2013<\/span>era Florida town.<\/p>\n<p>One 1965 account\u00a0was written\u00a0by <em>Bates Magazine<\/em> letter-writer Susan H.
