Erik co-founded the camp 22 years ago with classmate Dan Doyle. The pair went to the Bates administration and convinced them of the need for a summer camp that emphasized life values through exposure to healthy competition in a variety of sports. Doyle ran the program in its first year in the early 1980s, and Bertelsen took over after that. “The bottom line is it has to be fun for the kids,” Erik said. “I think my play on it has been to sort of look at sports as a vehicle through which kids could feel good about themselves.” (Dan has carried those same values forward in his work with the founder and executive director of the Institute for International Sport.) Erik leaves the camp’s directorship, as well as his position in the Colby admissions office, to become the assistant head for enrollment at the Pomfret School in Connecticut…. Michael Schwartz has been retained by NanoSignal Corp. to help implement its Slices technology, which enhances imaging technology without a loss of image quality…. Tom Snyder’s business, Designer Glass Mosaics, www.designerglassmosaics.com, creates mosaics that comprise hundreds, and often thousands, of geometrically shaped, stained-glass mosaic tiles. Each tile is hand-cut, glued, and grouted on a curved or flat surface. Reflecting original designs, the mosaics are created for fireplace surrounds, backsplashes, accent tiles as well as mosaic furniture, art works and lighting works. Tom’s studio is at the Charlotte Art League in Charlotte, N.C., and his work is displayed in a number of area galleries.

["post-5459","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
