Last April, Jared embarked on a 40-day Himalaya mountaineering course in the remote Kumaon region of northern India with the National Outdoor Leadership School. The NOLS course “allowed Devine and 13 other young adults to learn how to plan and carry out an international expedition…focusing on topics such as expedition planning, cultural awareness, altitude physiology and mountaineering skills. ‘The goal simply wasn’t just to cross the mountain, but to learn the methods of organizing and international expedition,’ Devine said. Devine was fortunate not to experience any difficulty with the high altitudes, something he attributed to living and working in Telluride, Colo. ‘I lived at 8,000 feet and worked at 10,000 to 11,000 feet at a ski resort,’ he said. ‘I think it helped.’”… Adam Greenlaw<\/strong> works in the Washington, D.C., office of U.S. Rep.
