Paul Dudley White Award at the Boston Heart Ball in April. A resident of Lewiston after his family emigrated from Lithuania, Lown invented the direct current defibrillator, introduced the drug Lidocane, and is author of four books and more than 400 articles. A peace activist, he is co-founder of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War.
