Tap out a note to <a href=\"mailto:magazine@bates.edu\">magazine@bates.edu<\/a>! <\/em><strong>Catherine Wynkoop<\/strong> reports a career that started in anthropology and ended up in healthcare management, following an M.P.H. in health administration in 1976 and a Ph.D. in health policy in 1993. Reflecting on her academic training in Bates&#8217; anthropology department newsletter, she says that &#8220;what I learned in introductory anthropology courses, and of course later, has held me in good stead ever since. The fundamentals of health planning and customer-focused or patient-focused care are squarely rooted in our ability to recognize and adapt to the cultures and traditions of the people we serve.
