Sixteen &#8217;43ers (the largest number of any of the 1998 Reunion classes present) enjoyed a mini-reunion Sept. 12 and 13 as they planned for their 55th Reunion and looked forward to June when the rest of the class will join them. Present were: Phyllis and\u00a0<strong>George Antunes<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Howard<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Lucy Davis Baker<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Bill Buker<\/strong>,<strong> Gil<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Marge Cahall Center<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Dick Fee<\/strong>, Gina and\u00a0<strong>Web Jackson<\/strong>,<strong> Jean Lombard Dyer<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Sam<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Jane White Stoddard<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Nancy Terry Park<\/strong>, Betty and\u00a0<strong>Minert Thompson, Horace<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Phyllis Hicks Wood<\/strong>. And this is what they report:\u00a0<strong>Howard Baker<\/strong> says, &#8220;We have had a great two days of planning and our 55th should be the best Reunion the Class of &#8217;43 has ever held.&#8221;&#8230;\u00a0<strong>Lucy Davis Baker<\/strong>: &#8220;Do join us for the 55th. Hope we can still have a great time with fond memories of Bates.&#8221;&#8230;\u00a0<strong>Marje Cahall Center<\/strong>: &#8220;Sharing ideas for our 55th Reunion has been fun. Those who missed the 50th as well as those who didn&#8217;t, will want to plan right now to be in Lewiston June 5-7.&#8221;&#8230;<strong>Gil Center<\/strong>: &#8220;Even though Reunions have something of a bittersweet quality, I always find them to be energizing experiences. I strongly urge you to be there for last one of this century. Reunion activities that we enjoyed included the wonderful banquet Thursday evening with Prexy and Mrs. Phillips as our guests, and the breakfast with President Harward, who had done his research diligently to remind us of life in the &#8217;40s. Among other special events was our special class gathering on Sunday. Outgoing co-president\u00a0<strong>Stan Freeman<\/strong> summed it up: &#8220;The turnout at the Ivy on Sunday morning was testimony to the cohesiveness of this class. Clearly we want to hold on to all our classmates by hugging those who are present and remembering those who have passed on.&#8221; Recent news:\u00a0<strong>Dick Baldwin<\/strong> was &#8220;on the road again last fall&#8221; for two weeks in China and a week in Tanzania&#8230;. Alton and\u00a0<strong>Marjorie Harvey Moore<\/strong> were in St. Louis in July for the national Shrine meeting. Alton is on his way to be potentate of Aleppo Temple in Massachusetts&#8230;.\u00a0<strong>Dick Sprince<\/strong> has a video of Reunion to share with classmates&#8230;. If you haven&#8217;t been back recently, one building you will enjoy visiting is the new Alumni House at 67 Campus Avenue. Work is also well underway on the New Academic Building. And when you do come back for our 50th Reunion, you will find that even though Bates has changed, it is unmistakably our &#8220;dear old Bates.&#8221; So, be there for our 50th.
