I&#8217;m going again in November.&#8221; More than 70 people joined in the dedication of &#8220;Charlie&#8217;s Bridge,&#8221; built on the Bearcamp River Trail that runs from Sandwich to Tamworth, New Hampshire. Dedicated to the late\u00a0<strong>Charlie Crooker<\/strong>, an inveterate climber who had worked on the trail, the bridge crosses the river where the water runs high in the spring. Friends and family joined in poetry, song, and a picnic lunch after traversing the new bridge&#8230;. We all share the sorrow of\u00a0<strong>Cassie Poshkus McIntire<\/strong> whose husband, Merton, died in May. She and Sandy went to North and South Carolina last October&#8230;.\u00a0<strong>Marion Brooks Bagley<\/strong> was knitting furiously as she and husband Russell prepared to become the oldest first-time grandparents in the Minneapolis area&#8230;. On Upper Saranac Lake, N.Y., Marion and\u00a0<strong>Jack Cushing<\/strong> celebrated 50 years of marriage on a camping trip with their four sons and their families&#8230;. Retired, but still doing personnel counseling,\u00a0<strong>Bob<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Nan Lord Daniels<\/strong> enjoy life on the Maine coast in Jonesport. In 1996 Nan was appointed registrar of voters and Bob wrote the software to computerize the voting list&#8230;.\u00a0<strong>Ken Drummond<\/strong> would like to gather a list of classmates to correspond with e-mail addresses. His e-mail is lovebump@aol.com&#8230;.\u00a0<strong>Carleton<\/strong>&#8220;<strong>Zeke<\/strong>&#8221; and\u00a0<strong>Arline Sinclair Finch<\/strong> find retirement most amazing. In March 1996 Zeke was acting business manager for the Leominster (Mass.) school department. Arline enjoys caring for their younger grandchildren, church work, and visits at a nursing home&#8230;. After Reunion, Lyn and\u00a0<strong>Clifford <\/strong>&#8220;<strong>Skip<\/strong>&#8221;\u00a0<strong>Gates<\/strong> not only celebrated their golden anniversary but also moved back to Maine from California in December 1995. In spite of a number of minor crises, neither settled nor unpacked at the time of writing, they enjoy the snow-filled woods, glorious sunsets, and the distant view of Mount Washington&#8230;.\u00a0<strong>Alice &#8220;Penny&#8221; Gates Haughwout<\/strong> is the proud owner of a pig heart valve following open-heart surgery. She and her daughter have purchased a two-family house&#8230;. Traveler<strong>Mary Guiney O&#8217;Leary<\/strong> went to Colorado, Connecticut, and Massachusetts visiting children and enjoyed a Caribbean cruise with\u00a0<strong>Lee Jewell Ballard<\/strong> in March 1996. In her fund raising for the Bates Campaign, Mary reports great success and says, &#8220;Our College needs that firm financial support.&#8221;&#8230; Last summer,\u00a0<strong>Lee Ballard<\/strong>hosted a mini-reunion at her cottage on Square Pond. Attending were\u00a0<strong>Mary Guiney O&#8217;Leary<\/strong>,<strong> Miriam Dolloff Chesley<\/strong>,<strong> <\/strong>Clay and\u00a0<strong>Nancy Farrell Adams<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Mary Hamlin March<\/strong>,<strong> Carleton <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Arline Sinclair Finch. <\/strong>Later in August, &#8220;<strong>Mickey<\/strong>&#8221;\u00a0<strong>Chesley <\/strong>hosted another mini-reunion with\u00a0<strong>Lee Ballard<\/strong>,<strong> Mary O&#8217;Leary<\/strong>,<strong> Dick <\/strong>&#8217;42 and\u00a0<strong>Shirley Raymond Blanchard<\/strong>,<strong> Leslie Wight<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Jane Smith Lefebvre<\/strong>. Mickey is very busy with tape loom demonstrations and appearances&#8230;. In June 1996,\u00a0<strong>Phyllis Jones Twichell<\/strong> joined the Peace Corps in Albania, where she teaches English at a foreign-language school in Shroder. She wrote of the many difficulties and cultural differences she has encountered&#8230;. Last summer,\u00a0<strong>Jack<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Betty Benoit Joyce<\/strong> reported from &#8220;hurricane central&#8221; on Cape Cod. After their 50th anniversary celebration in July, they attended Back-to-Bates ceremonies in October honoring the undefeated 1946 football team that went to the Glass Bowl&#8230;.\u00a0<strong>Dan<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Connie Wood Norte<\/strong> &#8217;46 returned to Bates for her 50th Reunion. Since he retired, Dan has achieved his goal of a 1,000-meter swim at the local YMCA&#8230;.\u00a0<strong>Ed Nutting<\/strong> is thrilled with the Reunion picture of third-floor Roger Bill freshmen &#8212; a small but distinguished slightly over-the-hill group&#8230;.\u00a0<strong>Dick<\/strong> &#8217;42 and\u00a0<strong>Shirley Raymond Blanchard<\/strong> celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by buying a computer. They now are learning how to use it!&#8230;\u00a0<strong>Richard Smith<\/strong> sees 30 to 40 children daily in his work for the Blue Cross\/Blue Shield HMO in Springfield, Mass. He and Gayle enjoyed a 1996 family gathering from all over the world on the occasion of granddaughter Dawn&#8217;s wedding in May&#8230;. &#8220;All my news is overshadowed by George&#8217;s death after 52 years of marriage,&#8221; wrote\u00a0<strong>Christine Stillman Kolstad. <\/strong>We all send our love and heartfelt sympathy to her and her family&#8230;. Charles and\u00a0<strong>Ruth Stone Gallagher<\/strong> celebrated their 50-year marriage this past year&#8230;. Following Reunion, Melvin and\u00a0<strong>Rohna Isaacson Shoul<\/strong> went on an Elderhostel to Poland to visit Auschwitz and the Jewish quarters of Krakow. They had visited Hiroshima 25 years ago, and reflecting upon these 20th-century tragedies, Rohna hopes that when our grandchildren celebrate their 50th reunions, they can reflect on a century they can feel good about&#8230;.\u00a0<strong>Herbert Knight<\/strong> is working on our Reunion documentary video. He is back playing golf after bypass surgery&#8230;.\u00a0<strong>Anne Smith Nanavaty<\/strong> says Reunion was &#8220;outstanding and showed many hours, talents, and time contributed by our classmates.&#8221; In August she and Kris enjoyed a reunion with their five sons and their families&#8230;. Lou and\u00a0<strong>Electra Zazopoulos Scliris<\/strong> were overwhelmed with this year&#8217;s Reunion: &#8220;Every minute we spent at Bates made us feel great.&#8221; Afterwards they traveled to Colorado and Wyoming.
