Marking a milestone moment, the ceremony shares gratitude through the voices of students from many backgrounds and traditions and through many forms of artistic expression including poetry, music, dance, and storytelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Baccalaureate is held on the Historic Quad (rain or shine) and seniors process into the service wearing caps and gowns. All friends and family are welcome to attend and seating is first-come, first-served. The procession begins at 10:50, with a musical prelude before. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We invite parents and families to contribute to the festivities in two ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bates-shortcodes-btn btn-wrap\"><div class=\"btn-action\" role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"bbea97dd-50cb-4ab6-9998-d9b902fadfc8\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h3 class=\"btn-title\">Family &amp; Loved Ones&#8217; Reflections<\/h3><div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"btn-content\" id=\"bbea97dd-50cb-4ab6-9998-d9b902fadfc8\">\n<p>We invite you to send us your reflection on this moment and we will compile the responses and make selections representing the combined voices of our graduates\u2019 parents and guardians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please send in your responses no later than Friday, April 10th. You can submit them by emailing <a href=\"mailto:multifaithchaplaincy@bates.edu\" data-type=\"mailto\" data-id=\"mailto:multifaithchaplaincy@bates.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">multifaithchaplaincy@bates.edu<\/a> with the subject line: \u201cBaccalaureate Family Members and Loved Ones Reflection.\u201d *<em>please note we\u2019d prefer if you refrain from using your student\u2019s name in the reflection so that the remarks will resonate for all students<\/em>*<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you would like to have your thoughts\u2013 whether in the form of poetry, prayers, prose, or short stories\u2013 in the ceremony, please read the prompts below and email your responses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tell us about a moment when you realized your student had grown while at Bates.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What does your student\u2019s graduation from college mean to you or your family?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What reassurance would you give to them as they enter into this new chapter?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bates-shortcodes-btn btn-wrap\"><div class=\"btn-action\" role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"931e8ec1-bd92-4f4c-85b5-492ee011829e\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><h3 class=\"btn-title\">Blessing Cards<\/h3><div class=\"btn-arrow\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"btn-content\" id=\"931e8ec1-bd92-4f4c-85b5-492ee011829e\">\n<p>Baccalaureate begins with a procession of the senior class into the historic Quad and ends with a recessional. The graduating class enters through trellises that are adorned with blessing cards that bear the well-wishes of family and loved ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parents and guardians will receive a blessing tag in the mail with a letter conveying the information on this page. Please decorate the tag to honor your graduate and bring it with you to hang on the trellises before the ceremony or mail it back to us (with your student&#8217;s name included) at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Multifaith Chaplaincy<br>Bates College<br>163 Wood St.<br>Lewiston, ME 04240<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tags will be alphabetized on the trellises so you can easily find the one you mailed in or hang one for your student. Ribbon for tying the tags on the trellises will be available beginning at 9:00am on Saturday, May 30th. If you would like to print out additional tags, you may download this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/multifaith\/files\/2026\/03\/Baccaulareate_blessing_tags.pdf\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/multifaith\/files\/2026\/03\/Baccaulareate_blessing_tags.pdf\">template<\/a>. If you do not bring one, there will be a table to the left of the stage with blessing tags and supplies for decorating.
