This exhibition presents a wide array of paintings, drawings, prints, and sculptures by one of Maine\u2019s best-known artists, Dahlov Ipcar (1917-2017). Drawn mainly from private collections, the works represent periods spanning nearly the artist\u2019s entire career. Many of the works in Blue Moons & Menageries <\/i>are exhibited publicly for the first time. Ipcar, the daughter of prominent modernist artists, Marguerite and William Zorach, reached a wide audience through the many children\u2019s books she wrote and illustrated, and many of these images are also included.  She also maintained a steady studio practice, producing paintings, sculptures, and prints that have been widely collected in public and private collections. In 1939, Ipcar was the first woman\u2013and, at the age of 21, the youngest artist to date\u2013to be featured in a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. An illustrated catalogue, with essay by Sara Torres, Education Researcher, MoMA, will support the exhibition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
