Hedge Hall and Roger Williams Hall Satellite Galleries <\/h3>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

An exhibition of German Art Posters installed in the Museum\u2019s satellite galleries in Hedge and Roger Williams Halls on the Bates College campus. The Posters are selections from a gift of graphic works donated to the Museum of Art by Eric and Marilyn Hirschler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The posters are from the mid1960s and are primarily museum and gallery art exhibition posters. The works feature important and lesser-known post-war and contemporary German artists and are from a variety of galleries and museums. Exhibitions of the Expressionist and New Objectivity (Neue Sachlichkeit) movements by artists such as K\u00e4the Kollwitz, Otto Dix, and George Grosz are among the featured works and the exhibition posters come from museums such as the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Akademie der K\u00fcnste, as well as influential galleries in Berlin, Munich, and elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This exhibition was curated by Sophie Jensen \u201919 with contributions from Jakub Kazeki, Associate Professor of German and European Studies, and museum curator, William Low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mission of the Hedge and Roger Williams Satellite Galleries is to increase access to art in the Museum of Art\u2019s permanent collection by presenting exhibitions in academic buildings.  Exhibitions will vary in subject and theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Museum of Art supports student scholarship at Bates and has an active education program which includes internships.  Internships at the MoA provide students with opportunities to learn professional museum practices and research objects in the permanent collection.  Satellite Gallery exhibitions provide additional spaces to present exhibitions supported by such student scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
