With a long career in journalism, he co-founded The Canadian Review in 1973 and by 1977 it was the third-largest circulating magazine in Canada. Afterwards Carter was a writer and editor for Time, Life, and the New York Observer, as well as co-founded Spy. He was known for creating high profile celebrity stories as a part of Vanity Fair\u2019s brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carter produced an HBO Documentary about writer Fran Lebowitz directed by Martin Scorsese in 2010. Carter and Lebowitz are colleagues; she has been employed as a contributing editor and occasional columnist for Vanity Fair since 1997.
