\"logo\"This Fall marks the fortieth anniversary of the military coup in Chile\u2014the \u201cother\u201d September 11\u2014that overthrew the democratically elected government of Salvador Allende and initiated a period of state terror throughout Latin America.\u00a0Memories of the Present Past \/ Memorias del Pasado Presente<\/i>\u00a0brings together five critically acclaimed films, from previous Global Lens series, that reflect on the contested memories of the past, the reverberations of state repression in everyday life, and the restoration of democracy in the region. The film program coincides with the launch of Bates\u2019s Latin American Studies program, and forms part of a series of events to inaugurate this exciting new interdisciplinary major.<\/p>\n
