South African saxophonist, McCoy Mrubata<\/strong>, is visiting Maine and will be joined by his musical collaborator, guitarist Gary Wittner. Once a member of the legendary Hugh Masakela’s band, McCoy Mrubata has established himself as not just a saxophonist but a bandleader and touring\/recording musician. A recent recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the S. African Music Association, McCoy Mrubata has released over 20 CDs of original South African jazz and has toured the African continent and Europe extensively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joining him is guitarist Gary Wittner<\/strong>, a faculty member at the University of Maine School of Music and Bowdoin College. Gary has performed music worldwide on 5 continents, and has officially represented the USA multiple times as a Kennedy Center Jazz Ambassador, Fulbright Specialist, and US Embassy Outreach Artist. Gary has released 7 CDs as a leader, and performs original, instrumental and vocal jazz, Latin music, and Middle Eastern music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
