{"id":2058,"date":"2016-06-01T10:49:17","date_gmt":"2016-06-01T14:49:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/music\/?page_id=2058"},"modified":"2016-06-01T10:49:17","modified_gmt":"2016-06-01T14:49:17","slug":"amos-libby","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/music\/amos-libby\/","title":{"rendered":"Amos Libby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2059 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/music\/files\/2016\/06\/Amos-Libby-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Amos Libby\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/music\/files\/2016\/06\/Amos-Libby-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/music\/files\/2016\/06\/Amos-Libby-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/music\/files\/2016\/06\/Amos-Libby-200x200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/music\/files\/2016\/06\/Amos-Libby.jpg 403w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Amos Libby<\/strong> began his study of Middle Eastern music and oud technique with the late oud master and composer Udi Alan Shavarsh Bardezbanian, and has continued his study of his oud and Arabic and Turkish music through regular and extensive travel to meet with teachers in the Middle East and Turkey.\u00a0 Amos has studied oud in Morocco with Ustaadh Yusuf Madani of the Conservatoire Nationale de Musique Arabe in Rabat.\u00a0\u00a0 Amos travels periodically to Turkey to study Ottoman classical and Turkish contemporary art music with Istanbul Conservatory veteran and oud and yayli tanbur master Osman Nuri Ozpekel, and has also studied in Istanbul with renowned oud virtuoso Necati Celik. Amos also studied with Lebanese oud master Charbel Rouhana at Simon Shaheen&#8217;s Arabic Music Retreat at Mount Holyoke College. Fluent in Modern Standard Arabic and Palestinian colloquial Arabic, Amos\u00a0 has studied Arabic at the Qalam Wa Lawh Center for Arabic Studies in Rabat, Morocco, Middlebury Arabic language school (as a Kathryn Davis Fellow for the Study of Critical Languages). Amos has performed on the oud throughout the United States as well as in Turkey and the Middle East.\u00a0 Amos began his study of North Indian tabla performance technique and theory with the late master Ustad Mulazim Hussain in 1996 and has been a disciple of Vidwan M. Vasudev Rao in the discipline of Indian classical percussion in Bangalore, India since 1998 where he continues to visit often to study and perform.
