Bates Modern Dancers to stage concert

The Bates College Modern Dance Company in Concert will showcase the performance and choreography talents of student, faculty and alumni artists during Parents and Families Weekend at 8 p.m. Sept. 26 and Sept. 27, in the Schaeffer Theatre. The public is invited to attend free of charge with no reservations accepted.

Under the artistic direction of Marcy Plavin, an ensemble of approximately 25 student dancers will perform a diverse series of pieces. “The show has a very eclectic feeling,” Plavin said.

The 13 works, some lighthearted and others considering more profound issues, include “Voice,” a piece choreographed by Bates alumna Carolyn Bon Duran ’97 and performed by Yona Segal ’97, Jennifer Chowning ’97 and junior Lyndsey Tangel. “Clan,” a new work choreographed by Plavin, features the entire company, and “A Long Time Ago” presents the work of Bates alumnus John Carrafa ’76, who has choreographed Broadway and Hollywood productions.
