Bates to host "Maine Theater Day"

The Bates College Department of Theater, in conjunction with the Maine Drama Council and the Maine Principal’s Association, will host 200 Maine high school students in “Maine Theater Day” on Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Schaeffer Theatre and other locations on campus.

The day will include a series of presentations and workshops on acting, improvisation and technical production. “It’s an effort for Bates to reach out to high schools that need help with their productions and to offer more advanced acting instruction to high school actors,” said Joshua Williamson, technical director of Theater at Bates, who is organizing the day.

Williamson will be joined by Katalin Vecsey, a voice instructor at Bates, as well as Christopher Schario and Janet Mitchko, artistic director and assistant artistic director, respectively, at the Public Theater in Lewiston. Bates theater majors also will work with the high school students.
