Virtuoso organist to perform Bates concert

Nationally recognized organist Christopher Young, a graduate of the Bates College class of 1982, will perform at 8 p.m. Friday, June 9, in the Bates College Chapel. The public is invited to attend free of charge. A former winner of the National Young Artists Competition of the American Guild of Organists, The New York Times called Young “a distinguished interpreter with a firm, commanding technique.” According to The American Organist, “Young’s playing was formidable, dazzling and mature.”

Young is chairman of the organ department at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, he earned his master’s degree while studying with David Craighead, and his D.M.A. and the prestigious Performer’s Certificate under Russell Saunders. Young graduated Phi Beta Kappa with honors from Bates.
