BatesNews, featuring our great (we think!) Bates photography, writing, and video storytelling, is published weekly on Fridays except during college breaks and the month of July.

All alumni, parents, and friends receive BatesNews and its weekly Bobcat sports companion, Sports Update, delivered each Tuesday.

In addition to timely news stories and features on Bates people and college life, here are popular recurring items that you’ll see in BatesNews:

  • This Month at Bates, the monthly showcase of the college’s great photography, led by Phyllis Graber Jensen.
  • Campus Construction Update, writer Doug Hubley’s witty and detail-rich chronicling of the latest Bates facilities developments, including major new construction projects;
  • Look What We Found, where you’ll meet fascinating faculty and staff members through the cool stuff we discover in their offices;
  • Bates at Night, a photo-driven excursion into the evening activities and pursuits of Bates students;
  • Bates in the News, a compendium of items in the news media about Bates and Bates alumni, faculty, staff, and students.

Of course, you can also follow Bates College on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram. And when it comes to athletics, you can follow @BatesSports on Twitter and @BatesCollegeAthletics on Facebook. Other college programs and departments often have their own social media outlets, too.

For folks who are close by (or who want to feel close by), we produce a regular listing of Events at Bates. To sign up, go to the bottom of your BatesNews email, click “Update Your Subscription Preferences,” and check “Events at Bates.”

The email footer is also where you can update your Bates contact information. Keep in touch!
