That includes \u201cexploring more remote work options\u201d and \u201cmaking no travel or minimal travel an option for senior positions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Burke notes that while &#8220;it\u2019s much easier&#8221; for the media &#8220;to talk about the new sexy trends\u201d related to employee benefits, &#8220;no one talks about the hard, gritty work of training good managers or training people to develop new skills.&#8221;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/opinion\/healthcare\/355802-we-need-leaders-who-recognize-our-moral-obligation-for-health-equality\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Katz &#8217;84<\/a><\/h3>\n<h5>U.S. healthcare has an immature business model. Maturation means creating &#8220;a highly consolidated industry,&#8221; rather than the current fragmented one, that &#8220;will drive health systems to compete on price.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A &#8220;moral obligation to achieve health equality.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The goal is not just reducing costs. How do we get from there to there? It\u2019s incremental, which is a cool challenge as opposed to being down here and we want to go up here.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/mainepublic.org\/post\/leading-scholar-racism-end-it-focus-more-policies#stream\/0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ibram X. Kendi<\/a><\/h3>\n<h5>To end racism, focus more on new policy \u2014 Maine Public<\/h5>\n<p>Before speaking in the Gomes Chapel on Oct. 23, historian and author Ibram X. Kendi <a href=\"http:\/\/mainepublic.org\/post\/leading-scholar-racism-end-it-focus-more-policies#stream\/0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spoke with Maine Public&#8217;s Nora Flaherty<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Efforts to end racism in American have &#8220;focused on trying to educate away the racist ideas&#8221; through &#8220;education and love.&#8221;\u00a0 The problem is, he said, is that producers of racist ideas tend not to create them out of ignorance or hate but from &#8220;economic, political, and cultural self-interest.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kendi suggest that when &#8220;we think about these mass-produced racist ideas and these mass-produced racist policies&#8230;it&#8217;s more effective to challenge the policies than it is to educate away these ideas.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Historically, he says, &#8220;we&#8217;ve actually been able to undermine racist ideas by undermining racist policies. A very good one.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In nine years, Gervais has raised more than $105,000.<\/p>\n<p>Held annually in October, the Dempsey Challenge running and bicycling fundraiser supports the Dempsey Center, which serves, free of charge, anyone affected by cancer.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s sponsored by actor, philanthropist, and Lewiston native Patrick Dempsey, who received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree at Commencement in May.<\/p>\n<p>He jokes that he and actor Patrick Dempsey are \u201clike that,\u201d crossing his two fingers. \u201c(He\u2019s) super nice,\u201d Gervais told Skelton. \u201cEvery year at the (fundraiser) banquets, he would come over and say hi.
