A psychology major from Baltimore, he learned essential skills for today&#8217;s world, such as how to be constructively skeptical and critical \u2014 &#8220;to think for myself and not just accept what someone tells you, but challenge it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #009779;\"><em>Video by Theophil Syslo.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Carlyle Turner | Voices from the Class of 2019\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RsRM-aMPVWs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In addition to his studies, Turner has been a member of the squash team and, last summer, had a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/2018\/08\/16\/these-bates-funded-summer-experiences-help-students-find-meaning-in-work\/\">Purposeful Work internship\u00a0at Columbia University<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There, he joined a study looking at the long-term effects of stress and toxic chemical exposure on the health of New Yorkers who were under age 17 during the 9\/11 attacks.
