{"id":136395,"date":"2020-10-08T13:39:53","date_gmt":"2020-10-08T17:39:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/?p=136395"},"modified":"2025-06-26T12:10:18","modified_gmt":"2025-06-26T16:10:18","slug":"b-well-keeping-bobcats-active-in-the-time-of-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/2020\/10\/08\/b-well-keeping-bobcats-active-in-the-time-of-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Video: Keeping Bobcats well, active, and healthy during COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">Bobcats love the outdoors, a helpful fact during a pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">&#8220;The Bates campus in itself is a great outdoor facility,&#8221; says Mike Milliken, the college&#8217;s manager of community wellness. &#8220;And this is one of the best times of the year in Maine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With physical distancing and other public-health protocols limiting the scale of indoor physical activities, Bates is helping the campus community stay well and healthy in creative and safe ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Milliken, who oversees <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/b-well\/\">B Well, the Bates wellness program<\/a>, has expanded his outdoor offerings to include pop-up classes near the Bobcat statue, including yoga, cycling, and Milliken\u2019s famed boot camps. B Well also offers a range of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCnWd7a0_mVsH0rA-YDY9aYQ\/videos\" target=\"_blank\">virtual wellness classes online<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"fb-embed\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CPvNpWRZpKM\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Another new outside offering, the <a href=\"https:\/\/gobatesbobcats.com\/sports\/2020\/8\/18\/rec-outdoor-fitness.aspx?id=796\">Bobcat Fitness Trail offers a one-mile loop through campus<\/a> featuring six exercise stations along the way. During the week of Oct. 19, Bates will open a new fitness park adjacent to the Wallach Tennis Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beti Stevens &#8217;24 of Kittery, Maine, tried her hand at one of Milliken&#8217;s recent boot camps. Her judgment?  &#8220;Awesome. She started out as a participant and was encouraged by one of her peers to become an instructor.
