You have a great face for hats\u201d? Did your father ever tell you, \u201cMake sure you wear a hat. It\u2019s cold outside.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We couldn\u2019t help but notice all the different headwear that has helped Bobcats stay warm during the recent sub-zero cold snap. (\u201cSnap?\u201d We\u2019re talking all of January and February thus far!) So we decided to take a closer look by asking for a few hat portraits, and asking each to share something about their hat\u2019s form and function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not surprisingly, the answers varied quite a bit. It&#8217;s a winter staple, she says. And, when she puts it on, she thinks of home.&nbsp; \u201cI am so grateful for them and all that they&#8217;ve given me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe best part about my coat hood is the warmth! He appreciates the way it represents his college. \u201cIt&#8217;s noticeable but not overbearing because it has relatively soft colors to it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hat\u2019s best feature is that it covers his dreadlocks. \u201cThere are tons of hats that just do not cover my hair all the way.\u201d An ill-fitting hat, he says, \u201cdoes not look good and does not help me keep warm when it goes below zero.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jenkins\u2019 first winter Bates hat \u2014&nbsp;his first piece of Bates swag \u2014 suffered shrinkage when he put it the dryer. \u201cI was quite bummed, being that it was one of my first pieces of Bates gear. \u201cBut I like [this one] way more than my previous one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lesson? \u201cJust take care of the material things that you have. There&#8217;s something nice about an item being used to its full potential and having it run its course. Somebody before me loved and wore that hat for many grand occasions. I can&#8217;t remember what was which!\u201d he says.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hat is reversible and, depending on his mood, \u201cit can be yellow with black stripes or black with yellow stripes.\u201d The ear flaps keep the wind away. \u201cWhen they are not in use, I can tie them over my head. It is like having four hats in one!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hat was a challenge. \u201cIt needed to be redone a few times because the pattern wasn&#8217;t very clear.\u201d But his wife persevered. \u201cIt will always represent her love. I wish I could do something like that for her.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The scarf has too many \u201cbest parts\u201d to list, he adds. \u201cThe colors, textures, design elements \u2014 and, oh yeah, it keeps me warm!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Did your mother ever tell you, \u201cWear a hat.
