{"id":14890,"date":"2006-01-19T16:13:39","date_gmt":"2006-01-19T21:13:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/?p=14890"},"modified":"2017-01-26T14:49:38","modified_gmt":"2017-01-26T19:49:38","slug":"sangai-asia-2006","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/2006\/01\/19\/sangai-asia-2006\/","title":{"rendered":"Sangai Asia presents &#039;Asian Night Performance&#039;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href='https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2006\/01\/72roses12.jpg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"240\" height=\"190\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2006\/01\/72roses12.jpg\" class=\"attachment-medium alignleft\" alt=\"72roses12\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sangai Asia, a student group at Bates College that promotes Asian and Asian American awareness, identity and fellowship, presents a cultural extravaganza titled &#8220;<em>Asian Night Performance<\/em>&#8221;\u00a0 at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, in Schaeffer Theatre, 305 College St. The public is invited to attend at no charge.\u00a0 For more information, please call Bates student organizer Khoa Pham at 207-777-7811.<\/p>\n<p>The presentation, co-sponsored by\u00a0 the Women&#8217;s Resource Center and the Multicultural Center, features a fashion show, dancing, singing and guitar playing spanning various Asian nationalities, including Cambodian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>A special guest for the evening is Filipina poet Barbara Jane Reyes, a Mellon learning associate at Bates in the humanities and social sciences.<\/p>\n<p>Central to the <em>Asian Night Performance <\/em>is a series of traditional Vietnamese dances conducted by the nonprofit Boston-based performing group Bon Hong Viet Nam, or &#8220;<em>The Reflection of Roses.<\/em>&#8221; The group has appeared throughout the United States and Canada.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Reflection of Roses&#8221; consists of 10 or so professional female artists who will perform Vietnamese folk songs and dance wearing brightly colored outfits.
