The public is invited to attend free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn Sakakida Rawski, president of the Association of Asian Studies, has served as a professor of history at the University of Pittsburgh since completing her doctorate at Harvard University. Rawski earned a B.A. from Cornell University.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>An expert in late imperial and early modern Chinese history, she is the author of several books including &#8220;Agricultural Change and the Peasant Economy of South China,&#8221; &#8220;Chinese Society in the Eighteenth Century&#8221; and &#8220;Education and Literacy in Ch&#8217;ing China&#8221; as well as the editor of &#8220;Death Ritual in Late Imperial and Modern China.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Rawski has published numerous journal articles including &#8220;A Profile of the Manchu language in Ch&#8217;ing history&#8221; (Harvard Journal of Asiatic Studies, 1993) and &#8220;Research Themes in Ming-Qing Socioeconomic History &#8211; the state of the field&#8221; (The Journal of Asian Studies, 1991).<\/p>\n<p>The recipient of awards from the Ford Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Social Science Research Council, Rawski has been a Guggenheim fellow and a resident scholar of the Woodrow Wilson Institute.
