I don\u2019t teach history or consult on history to make people feel comfortable about true history.\u201d<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2014&nbsp;John Bear Mitchell, a citizen of the Penobscot Nation, who served as a cultural consultant for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/2023\/11\/09\/hilarious-but-provocative-the-thanksgiving-play-is-a-bates-play-that-has-to-be-done\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/2023\/11\/09\/hilarious-but-provocative-the-thanksgiving-play-is-a-bates-play-that-has-to-be-done\/\">Bates production of The Thanksgiving Play<\/a>, directed by Assistant Professor of Theater Tim Dugan. We appreciate this so much.\u201d<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2014 Jennifer Randall of Lewiston, talking about how students engaged with her grandchild during an Oct. 31 Halloween trick-or-treat event, in which students transformed Alumni Walk and nearby campus walkways and welcomed community families as a gesture of support. Since the shootings, the child had been fearful and withdrawn. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Holding Hope<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1919\" height=\"1279\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2023\/11\/231101_Vigil_Chapel_0904.webp\" alt=\"\u201cThe brightness that shines through the dark of a tragedy such as we have suffered here in Lewiston, our home, is what it always is in times like these: the immense capacity of our shared humanity,\u201d said Bates President Garry W.
