We counted 25 items in Ladd Library’s Lost and Found cubby, located just inside the front door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But when we opened up a packed pencil case, out poured 37 pens, mechanical pencils, highlighters, and markers. That makes 62 items. But please<\/em>, don’t demand a recount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sweetest lost item was a greeting card with the quote \u201c\u00catre avec des gens qu’on aime cela suffit<\/em>\u201d (\u201cBeing with people you love, that\u2019s enough\u201d) by Jean de La Bruy\u00e8re, a French philosopher and moralist, on the outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside the card was a handwritten note from \u201cGrandpa\u201d to his grandson in his first week at Bates. \u201cIf you call or text me asking for a favor, I will say YES before I even know what it is,\u201d wrote the grandfather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
