Many Bates faculty have received grants, awards, and other acknowledgements of their strong teaching and research. Earlier, we highlighted two English faculty \u2014 Jessica Anthony<\/strong> and Myronn Hardy <\/strong>\u2014 who received Guggenheim Fellowships<\/a> and two faculty Fulbright grantees<\/a> \u2014 Elena Maker Castro<\/strong> and Michel Droge<\/strong>. Read on for more great faculty news. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Professor of Digital and Computational Studies Carrie Diaz Eaton <\/strong>received support from the Hewlett Foundation. Diaz Eaton leads the Institute for a Racially Just, Inclusive, and Open STEM Education (RIOS Institute). The Hewlett Foundation renewed their support for RIOS with a two-year, $1-million fund for general operating support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry Dylan Joshua Freas <\/strong>received a Petroleum Research Fund grant-in-aid from the American Chemical Society. The award of $55,000 supports Freas\u2019 proposed research project: \u201cSynthetic Approaches Toward Hydrolytically Degradable Polyethylene Glycol and Poly(2-Oxazoline)s.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Associate Director of Counseling & Psychological Services Allison Brown<\/strong> <\/strong>was named one of the 2026 Harriett Copher Haynes Leadership Mentoring Award winners. This award, given by the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors, comes specifically from the Inclusive Excellence and Equity Committee. The award celebrates and supports \u201ctalented mental health professionals who belong to an identity group that experiences systemic barriers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Emily Kane<\/strong>, professor of sociology, was awarded the Periclean Faculty Leader course grant. This program is generously funded by the Mellon Foundation, with additional support from the Eugene M. Lang Foundation.
