{"id":17826,"date":"1996-09-23T10:07:20","date_gmt":"1996-09-23T14:07:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/?p=17826"},"modified":"2016-02-08T13:04:43","modified_gmt":"2016-02-08T18:04:43","slug":"bruce-lincoln","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/1996\/09\/23\/bruce-lincoln\/","title":{"rendered":"&#039;Culture&#039; is lecture topic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Author and professor Bruce Lincoln, hailed as one of the leading thinkers in the area of cultural studies, will discuss the meaning of the word &#8220;culture&#8221; in a lecture on Monday, Sept. 30.<!--more--><br \/>\nLincoln, currently professor of the history of religion at the University of Chicago, will speak on Meditations on &#8216;Culture&#8217; at 7:30 p.m. in the Benjamin Mays Center. The public is invited to attend at no charge.<\/p>\n<p>Lincoln&#8217;s books include <em>Authority: Construction and Corrosion<\/em> and <em>Emerging from the Chrysalis: Studies in Rituals of Women&#8217;s Initiation<\/em>. He previously taught at the University of Minnesota, where he was cofounder of the Program in Comparative Studies in Discourse and Society.<\/p>\n<p>His talk at Bates is sponsored by the Department of German, Russian and East Asian Languages and Literatures and the Department of Political Science.
