Daily, biodiversity preservationist and expert on human sustainability, will discuss <em>Managing Earth&#8217;s Life-Support Systems: Ecological and Economic Perspectives<\/em> at Bates at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, in the Edmund S. Muskie Archives. The public is invited to attend the lecture free of charge.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->As the Bing Interdisciplinary Research Scientist at Stanford University, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stanford.edu\/group\/CCB\/Staff\/gretchen.htm\">Daily<\/a> studies methods for preserving biodiversity and the Earth&#8217;s food and freshwater capacity for human beings. Her studies involve community ecology, conservation biology and the biophysical and socioeconomic dimensions of sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>Daily, co-author of <em>The Stork and the Plow: The Equity Solution to the Human Dilemma<\/em>, received bachelor&#8217;s, master&#8217;s and doctoral degrees in biological sciences from Stanford University. She has been a Nature Conservancy Fellow at the Center for Conservation Biology and received the Environmental Conservation Annual Foundation Best Paper Prize in 1990.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gretchen C.
