Parr Doering, chief of the air toxics section of the  Maine Department of Environmental Protection, will deliver a lecture  titled <em>Mercury in Maine&#8217;s Environment<\/em> April 23 at 7 p.m. in Room 204 of Carnegie. The public is invited and  admission is free.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Doering monitors the atmospheric deposition  of hazardous pollutants, including mercury-containing compounds, that  have led to fish consumption advisories for Maine&#8217;s inland waters. Her  work also involves implementing new federal standards on hazardous air  pollutants.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to joining the Maine DEP in 1992, Doering worked  on hazardous-waste disposal problems with the Environmental Protection Agency in New York. She earned a bachelor&#8217;s degree in meteorology from  Rutgers University in 1981 and a master&#8217;s degree in plant and soil science from the University of Maine in 1986.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ellen E.
