Stanton Wortham, assistant professor of education at Bates College, has been honored with the Maine Campus Compact’s Faculty Service-Learning Award. Wortham was recognized for designing several innovative service-learning projects, including a program in which Latino Bates students tutor and mentor Latino schoolchildren in S.A.D. 52 (Turner, Maine) schools.<\/p>\n

“The review committee was impressed by both the breadth and depth of Dr. Wortham’s experience. He has done an excellent job of integrating service-learning into his classes, and has been a serious advocate for service-learning nationally and on his own campus,” said Liz McCabe Park, director of the Maine Campus Compact.<\/p>\n
Wortham, who earned a bachelor’s degree from Swarthmore College and a doctoral degree from The University of Chicago, is the author of Acting Out Participant Examples in the Classroom<\/em>, (Philadelphia: John Benjamins, 1994).
