{"id":32822,"date":"1997-03-13T09:10:49","date_gmt":"1997-03-13T13:10:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/?p=32822"},"modified":"2015-06-26T13:25:10","modified_gmt":"2015-06-26T17:25:10","slug":"abingdon-square","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/1997\/03\/13\/abingdon-square\/","title":{"rendered":"&#039;Abingdon Square&#039; to be performed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Abingdon Square<\/em>, a recent work by playwright Maria Irene Fornes, will be performed at 8 p.m. March 27, 28 and 29, in the Gannett Theater at Bates College.<\/p>\n<p>This play centers around Marion, a young woman who finds herself married to a man forty years her senior in pre-World War I New York. Fornes, a prolific Cuban playwright, focuses on Marion&#8217;s need for safety and love from her fatherly husband, and her blossoming desire for independence in a world that leaves women few options.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><em>Abingdon Square<\/em> is a thesis production directed by Alice Reagan, a senior women&#8217;s literature and theater major at Bates. The production stars Milena Zuccotti &#8217;99, Chris Matthien &#8217;00 and Sean Monahan &#8217;98. The supporting cast includes Jenn Black &#8217;99, Teague McKnight &#8217;97, Arin Arbus &#8217;99 and Michael Ferry &#8217;97. Light design is being done by Elizabeth Moreau &#8217;99 and set design by Jeb Fowler &#8217;97. Costume design is by Arin Arbus &#8217;99 and Darcy Donald &#8217;98 will coordinate sound design. Catherine Kemp &#8217;98 is stage manager with assistant stage manager Joan Reddick &#8217;99. Carin Edwards-Orr &#8217;98 is technical director.<\/p>\n<p>General admission is $6 and $3 for senior citizens.
