After Chris Burke \u201911 looped a single into left vs. Fisher College on May 4, PA announcer Dave Myerson \u201910 delivered the news: \u201cCongratulations to Chris Burke, who just tied Tommy Beaton\u2019s single-season hits record!\u201d<\/p>\n

Moving to third on the play was none other than Beaton himself, whose 55th hit of the season a few minutes earlier had given him, albeit briefly, the hits record alone. So Beaton couldn\u2019t help but rib Burke from across Leahey Field. \u201cAt least you could have hit a line drive,\u201d Beaton shouted.<\/p>\n

The jocularity was understandable: The Bobcats were in the midst of a doubleheader sweep of Fisher, 17\u20136 and 18\u20137, and Bates records were a-tumbling.<\/p>\n

By season\u2019s end, second-year head coach Edwin Thompson\u2019s team had won a record 25 games against 11 losses, the program\u2019s first winning season since 1993.<\/p>\n

A slew of single-season records were set in 2010, some simply because of the longer-than-ever season. Still, it\u2019s worth noting these broken records, many of which had stood for nearly a generation:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Twenty-five wins passes the 1984 record of 18.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Noah Lynd \u201911 of Meriden, N.H., hit 15 homers, passing the previous record of nine by Gary Page \u201979 (1979) and Andy Carman \u201985 (1984).<\/p>\n

\u2022 Lynd had 44 RBIs, passing Carman (40 in 1984).<\/p>\n

\u2022 Jake Simon \u201911 of Waterford, Conn., scored 43 runs, passing Peter Mrowka \u201985 (40 in 1985).<\/p>\n

\u2022 Noah Burke \u201911 of Appleton, Maine, hit 15 doubles, passing Ben Bines \u201901 (14 in 2000).<\/p>\n

\u2022 Pat Murphy \u201911 of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, made no errors in 89 chances in center, the fourth Bobcat to record a perfect fielding percentage with a minimum of 50 chances.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Pitcher Paul Chiampa \u201911 of Pembroke, Mass., had 55 strikeouts, passing Dennis Gromelski \u201988 (52 in 1988).<\/p>\n

\u2022 Ryan Heide \u201911, now attending Columbia on the 3\u20132 engineering program, went 8\u20131 to take the win record from Pete Shibley \u201976 (7\u20131 in 1976).<\/p>\n
