So Beaton couldn\u2019t help but rib Burke from across Leahey Field. \u201cAt least you could have hit a line drive,\u201d Beaton shouted.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href='https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2010\/04\/web_100401_baseball_4585.jpg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"590\" height=\"393\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2010\/04\/web_100401_baseball_4585.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large\" alt=\"Celebration at the plate\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The jocularity was understandable: The Bobcats were in the midst of a doubleheader sweep of Fisher, 17\u20136 and 18\u20137, and Bates records were a-tumbling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pull_quote\">The <em>Sun Journal<\/em> calls the season an \u201camazing turnaround.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By season\u2019s end, second-year head coach Edwin Thompson\u2019s team had won a record 25 games against 11 losses, the program\u2019s first winning season since 1993.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Sun Journal<\/em> calls the season an \u201camazing turnaround\u201d (Bates went 12\u201322 in Thompson\u2019s first year) and notes that Thompson and his staff \u201cplan to make Bates a worthy rival to perennial NESCAC powers&#8230;and even a force in Division III. Don\u2019t put it past them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A slew of single-season records were set in 2010, some simply because of the longer-than-ever season.
