{"id":35535,"date":"2010-09-15T16:42:04","date_gmt":"2010-09-15T20:42:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/?p=35535"},"modified":"2016-06-28T13:51:55","modified_gmt":"2016-06-28T17:51:55","slug":"alexander-intercity-league","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/2010\/09\/15\/alexander-intercity-league\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily series: pitcher Alexander &#039;12 among the boys of summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>As summer enters its final week, we are sharing stories from  students who had Bates-related summer experiences, each day through  Sept. 21.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Name<\/strong>: Karl Alexander &#8217;12<br \/>\n<strong>Major<\/strong>: Politics<br \/>\n<strong>Hometown<\/strong>: Cambridge, Mass.<br \/>\n<strong>Summer activity<\/strong>: Pitching for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leaguelineup.com\/topnews.asp?url=watertownreds&amp;sid=126288114&amp;itemid=2521186\">Watertown Reds<\/a> of Boston&#8217;s historic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.intercityleaguebaseball.com\/\">Intercity League<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href='https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2010\/09\/alexander-7615.jpg'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"201\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2010\/09\/alexander-7615-201x300.jpg\" class=\"attachment-medium alignright\" alt=\"Karl Alexander &#039;12\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A key to the resurgence of Bates baseball (25-11 last spring) is a  commitment by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/x220927.xml\">current players to play summer bal<\/a>l in various wooden-bat  leagues around the country. In 2010, 13 Bates players played summer  ball, including righthander Karl Alexander &#8217;12, who helped the Watertown Reds advance to the finals of the 2010 Intercity  League.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s the highest level of amateur ball in the  Boston area,&#8221; Alexander points out. &#8220;There&#8217;s an array of players, from  current and former Division I, II and III college players to former  major leaguers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Besides honing baseball skills, Alexander  liked being around ballplayers with a lot more experience, both in life and in baseball. &#8220;I gained a heightened understanding on what  it means to be a teammate, leader and student.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Alexander is now abroad, studying sport migration politics in Morocco.
