Twenty individuals and organizations that received the second annual Bates College Harward Center for Community Partnership Awards, were recently recognized in a celebration at the Edmund S. Muskie Archives.<\/p>\n

Firmly rooted in the academic purpose of the college, the Harward Center serves as a focal point for connected learning — an education that fuses academic discussion and community. Reflecting this mission, award recipients connect Bates with the larger community through collaboration, research and service.<\/p>\n

The following individuals and organizations were honored:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Joan Macri<\/strong>, college aspirations coordinator, Lewiston High School, recipient of the 2008 James and Sally Carignan Award for Career Achievement;<\/p>\n

\u2022 Carolyn McNamara<\/strong> and Ariel Childs<\/strong>, both Bates class of 2008, recipients of the 2008 Harward Center Student Award for Outstanding Community-Based Academic Work;<\/p>\n

\u2022 Elizabeth Lydon<\/strong>, Thomas Burian<\/strong> and Erin Reed<\/strong>, all Bates class of 2008, recipients of the 2008 Harward Center Award for Outstanding Community Volunteerism and Student Leadership;<\/p>\n

\u2022 Whitehouse Professor of Sociology Emily Kane<\/strong>, recipient of the 2008 Harward Center Faculty Award for Outstanding New Community Partnership Initiatives;<\/p>\n

\u2022 Associate Professor of Biology Lee Abrahamsen<\/strong>, recipient of the 2008 Harward Center Faculty Award for Sustained Commitment to Community Partnership;<\/p>\n

\u2022 Anthony Shostak<\/strong>, education coordinator for the Bates College Museum of Art, recipient of the 2008 Harward Center Staff Award for Outstanding Support for Community Partnership;<\/p>\n

\u2022 Sarah Potter<\/strong>, Bates class of 1977, bookstore director and contract officer, recipient of the 2008 Harward Center Staff Award for Community Volunteerism and Leadership;<\/p>\n

\u2022 YADA<\/strong> (Youth + Adults + Dialogue = Action), recipient of the 2008 Harward Center Community Partner Award for Outstanding New Initiative;<\/p>\n

\u2022 Lewiston Adult Education<\/strong>, recipient of the 2008 Harward Center Community Partner Award for Sustained Commitment to Partnership;<\/p>\n

\u2022 Lecturer of Anthropology Heather Lindkvist<\/strong>, Ismail Ahmed<\/strong>, Omar Ahmed<\/strong>, Fatuma Hussein<\/strong>, Azeb Hassan<\/strong> and Gure Ali<\/strong>, recipients of the 2008 Harward Center Award for Outstanding Community Project\/Partnership;<\/p>\n
