It will be tough to choose among them &#8212; but try you must.<\/p>\n<p>The madness starts <strong>Thursday, Feb. 10<\/strong>, with three\u00a07:30 p.m. events:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/views\/2011\/01\/27\/gretchen-parlato\/\">a concert by esteemed jazz singer Gretchen Parlato<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/views\/2011\/01\/27\/emily-barton\/\">a reading by novelist Emily Barton<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/views\/2011\/01\/27\/oie-marc-lamont-hill\/\">and a review of the state of the hip hop nation by commentator Marc Lamont Hill<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The following day<\/strong>, the action is unrelenting:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/views\/2011\/02\/02\/auryn-year3\/\">the Auryn Quartet returns to complete, in concerts Friday, Saturday and Sunday, its review of the complete Beethoven string quartets<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/views\/2011\/02\/03\/wabanaki-material-culture\/\">Native American artisans and scholar<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/views\/2011\/02\/03\/wabanaki-material-culture\/\">s visit Bates for a seminar exploring Wabanaki material culture<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/views\/2011\/02\/03\/vagina-monologues-2011\/\">the Robinson Players begin a three-night run of Eve Ensler&#8217;s popular play <\/a><em><a href=\"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/views\/2011\/02\/03\/vagina-monologues-2011\/\">The Vagina Monologues<\/a><\/em>;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/views\/2011\/02\/04\/freewill-folkfest\/\">and the Freewill Folk Society offers its first community folk festival, featuring performances by Celtic fusion band the Bridgebuilders and Lewiston fiddle star Erica Brown and the Bluegrass Connection<\/a>. The usual second-Friday contradance follows.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>On Saturday<\/strong>, in addition to the Auryn and Rob Players events, <a href=\"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/views\/2011\/02\/07\/fab-dance-2011\/\">Bates dancers join a program of dance performances from across the region in the sixth annual <em>FAB<\/em> concert in partnership with the Franco-American Heritage Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This cultural extravaganza winds up <strong>Monday evening<\/strong> with the second lecture in the <a href=\"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/views\/2011\/02\/02\/posthuman-weheliye\/\"><em>Race in a Post-human World <\/em>series, as Northwestern University professor Alexander Weheliye offers the talk <em>Ring Ring Ring: Popular Music and Mobile Technologies<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/home.bates.edu\/views\/2011\/01\/03\/artmuseum-winter2011\/\"><strong>And don&#8217;t forget<\/strong> the three exhibits now under way at the Bates College Museum of Art<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the short span of just a few days this week and next, Bates College is the place to be for a cornucopia of can&#8217;t-miss events in the humanities and the arts.
