{"id":51386,"date":"2011-12-12T21:19:15","date_gmt":"2011-12-12T21:19:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/?p=51386"},"modified":"2018-10-01T13:27:49","modified_gmt":"2018-10-01T17:27:49","slug":"bcma-lastdays-dec11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/2011\/12\/12\/bcma-lastdays-dec11\/","title":{"rendered":"Museum of Art autumn exhibits in final days"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_51390\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2011\/12\/bcma25-baigneurs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51390\" class=\"wp-image-51390\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2011\/12\/bcma25-baigneurs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"590\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2011\/12\/bcma25-baigneurs.jpg 590w, https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2011\/12\/bcma25-baigneurs-300x244.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-51390\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;Les Baigneurs,&#8221; a lithograph by Paul Cezanne, appears in the Museum of Art exhibition &#8220;25.&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Two important exhibitions at the Bates College Museum of Art are in their last days.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tale Spinning<\/em> explores different conceptions of the act of storytelling in media from video to sculpture to watercolor by six renowned artists: Enrique Chagoya, Lesley Dill, Brad Kahlhamer, Shirin Neshat, Nicky Nodjoumi and Alison Saar.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/wp-includes\/js\/tinymce\/plugins\/wordpress\/img\/trans.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>25: Selections from the Permanent Collection<\/em>, an exhibition marking the art museum&#8217;s 25th anniversary with an in-depth exploration of the museum&#8217;s holdings, includes work by Paul Cezanne, Mary Cassatt and noted Maine artist Charlie Hewitt, among many others. <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/wp-includes\/js\/tinymce\/plugins\/wordpress\/img\/trans.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Saturday, Dec. 17, is the last day for the exhibitions.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tale Spinning<\/em>, explains museum director Dan Mills, is &#8220;essentially an exhibition of artists who, in very different ways, have a strong narrative component in their work. They come from diverse backgrounds, and they tell tales incorporating aspects of their personal and cultural stories, of history and their imaginations. &#8220;It is a group of extraordinary artists who spin tales worth seeing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Each employs different aesthetic, conceptual and narrative strategies, resulting in imagery and stories that take many forms.<\/p>\n<p><em>25 <\/em>ranges widely through media and historical periods, from historic prints and pre-Columbian ceramics to contemporary painting and photography. It highlights significant gifts to the museum, as well as acquisitions reflecting the museum&#8217;s role in Bates&#8217; academic mission.<\/p>\n<p>The museum is open to the public at no cost from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and till 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.
