Chapman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/tenure-promotions-chapman\/dale-chapman-visiting-assistant-professor-music\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-55750\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-55750\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2012\/07\/Chapman-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2012\/07\/Chapman-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2012\/07\/Chapman-333x500.jpg 333w, https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/files\/2012\/07\/Chapman.jpg 998w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/a>Associate Professor of Music<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chapman is one of six Bates faculty members who have received tenure appointments or promotions that will take effect Aug. 1, 2012. \u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bates.edu\/news\/2012\/06\/18\/tenure-promotions\/\">Read the story.<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><em><\/em>He is a music scholar who specializes in the study and performance of jazz.<\/p>\n<p>At Bates he has taught courses on music theory, the works of jazz artists including Miles Davis and Duke Ellington, the \u201cmashup\u201d culture and the role of music in cultural politics.<\/p>\n<p>Chapman&#8217;s published articles include: \u201c\u2019That Ill, Tight Sound\u2019: Telepresence and Biopolitics in Post-Timbaland Rap Production,&#8221; in\u00a0<em>The Journal of the Society for American Music<\/em>\u00a0special issue on Black Music and Technology (May 2008). He has a book chapter forthcoming on \u201cMusic and the State of Exception in Alfonso Cuar\u00f3n\u2019s\u00a0<em>Children of Men<\/em>\u201d in the\u00a0<em>Oxford Handbook of Sound and Image in Digital Media<\/em>. He is also under contract with the University of California Press to write a book,\u00a0<em>The Jazz Bubble: Neoclassical Jazz in Neoliberal Culture<\/em>.
