<\/a>\"\"<\/a>In October 2010, Bates and the Lewiston Fire Department held a Fire Safety Day that may have been an eye-opener in revealing the value of Bates safety polices.<\/p>\n

The highlight was a simulated dorm room fire that graphically illustrated the hazards posed by candles, unauthorized cooking appliances, clutter and overflowing trash containers.<\/p>\n

If there’s a fire, the speed at which smoke and flames develop could make it difficult to escape your residence. So never be complacent when the fire or smoke detectors start sounding.<\/p>\n
