Perhaps the best-attended Arts Crawl venue, the joint was jumping. Just within one 45-minute span, for example, the performers were:

hip hop dance experts Isaiah Rice ’15 and Leroy Barnes ’14

Lena and Los Morose Bros., a student band doing lively Americana music

and dancers, led by Zoe Fahy ’13, who undertook such exercises as using one part of the anatomy to trace the shape of another — for instance, using a foot to describe the whorls of the ear.

For one viewer, the unadorned nature of the Memorial Commons stage — lacking lights, sets or sound system — was key to the interactive nature of the experience. “It was a little out of everyone’s comfort zone — performers were not used to being so close and vulnerable in front of the audience, and the audience not used to examining the performers so close,” said Mariya Manahova ’14.

“The space felt very intimate, humans showing other humans what they love doing.”

An untitled camera obscura image by Eleanor Anaclerio ’13.

Chase Hall was one of the two poles of the Arts Crawl axis, the other being Olin Arts Center, a campus away.
