Known as a top producer of students receiving prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Grants, Bates this year graduated 11 such students — a record number for the college.<\/p>\n

Supporting an academic year of research and teaching in more than 155 countries outside the United States, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program is funded primarily by the U.S. Department of State and sends some 1,800 U.S. citizens abroad annually.<\/p>\n

The 2013 Bates recipients comprise one student awarded a study\/research grant, for a biology project in Norway; 10 who have received English Teaching Assistantships for work in nations from France to Malaysia. The assistantships support students who both pursue their own research and work to improve local students’ English and knowledge of the United States.<\/p>\n
